Liam Wins 2010's First Artist of the Month

Our first budding artist for 2010 is Liam, with his beautiful boat named "Rain Bow".  This boat really caught our eye for multiple reasons.  The first being the really neat vertical stripes on the sails and the horizontal stripes on the hull.  He managed to make four colors look like more with his consistent color patterns.

The other aspect we loved was the way he colored SCOTT by outlining the interior with read, yellow, then green and coloring the rest in with blue.  It just really stood out amongst the over 30 sailboats that were colored during the Holiday vacation when the dealership was filled with kids.

Way to go Liam and congratulations for being the Sconda Artist of the Month for January!

5 New Movies for the Scott Kids Spot

New year, time for some fun new movies in the Scott Kids Spot Theater.  We tried to use a crowd pleasing cross-section of brand new digitally animated hits and old school cartoon classics for our youngest customers to enjoy.

Now when you and your child are in for sales or service you can watch family favorites like Bolt, The Little Mermaid, A Bug's Life, 101 Dalmatians and UP.

"We like to try to keep the movies fresh," says Douglas P. Scott, Manager of the Scott Kids Spot.  "We had a good run with our last batch of movies, but even we were ready to see something new.  We hope the kids love the new additions."

Athina Wins December Artist of the Month

With the winter school break upon us there was a bevy of sailboat beauties to choose from for this December's artist of the month.  There were easily five very well done and creative boats, but Athina's creation, named "funbolya" came out as the big winner.

Her stripped Scott sailboat had a unique patterned design that was a first in the well over 1000 colorings that we have received thus far.  Athina's attention to detail and clean lines really allowed her boat to stand out above all others.

Some other boats in contention were holiday themed, colored in florescent markers and one even added a spinnaker, which was a great touch.

Santa Brings Smiles and Gifts to Scondaland

This past Sunday everyone's pal Saint Nick made his annual visit to spread some early holiday cheer to the children and grandchildren of the Scott Honda family.

Over 40 future Scondateers were treated to cookies, juice, music and gifts from the big man in what has become a wonderful tradition at the dealership.

"For over 15 years we have worked out a deal with Santa to visit us on the first Sunday of December," says Vice President, Duke Scott.  "The kids absolutely love it and while he's here we give his sleigh a safety inspection to make sure it's safe for his big night."

As in year's past the musical entertainment was provided by local favorite Makin' Music, who came equipped with their library of Holiday songs and enough instruments for all the kids. 

The overwhelming favorite request for Santa this year was the Nintendo DSi, followed closely by pet ponies and Transformers.

"I asked Santa for a Nintendo DSi because my cousin Meressa has one and I want to play it with her," said, Bella, 7-years-old.

Scott Honda wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a quick note to Santa, the sleigh looks great, you should have no flight issues on Christmas Eve.

Nov. Artist of the Month - AJ's "Sea Sailer"

November's Artist of the Month is a real fun one.  AJ's "Sea Sailer" caught our eye due to its unique style.  The "Sea Sailer" is much more abstract than it's AOTM predecessors and that's what we liked.  AJ took a risk and it paid off.

We particularly liked what appears to almost be a shadow of the mast and sails (in blue with green outline) on the sail of the actual boat.  The jagged waves and great use of all four colors on the SCOTT was also a key part of the winning combination.

Scott Honda Helps "Drive Away the Cold"

How many winter coats can you fit inside a Honda Odyssey? The Answer is 196 (if rear visibility is not a necessity).

Scott Honda recently dropped off 196 winter coats for children at the Maternal and Child Health Consortium of Chester County.  The coats were a part of Driving Away the Cold, organized by the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia.

"Of all the charity work we do this is my favorite cause," says Sales Consultant Greg Cole, a father of five.  "It just makes you feel good to know that we're able to help so many people at once."

Scott Honda, a 2nd year participant, donated a coat for every vehicle sold in the month of September.  Scott was one of 118 area dealers that donated over 17,875 coats this year alone.  In the first two years of this great program, more than 36,000 children have been kept warm thanks to the the generosity of these car dealers.

In a story told to Sconda Blog, during a home visit last year a participant received three coats for her three boys. She hugged the Family Health Advocates and as she opened the coats she expressed her great appreciation.  “You don’t know how much this means to me and my family! I recently lost my job and my boyfriend was just in the hospital for heart related problems and I was thinking what I am going to do for coats this year?” Both she and her boyfriend were overly appreciative and thanked the staff members numerous times.

Stories just like that are repeating themselves all over the Philadelphia area again this year.

“We are so proud of this entire program and all of its facets including the 118 dealers who participated in our second annual month-long campaign,” said Kevin Mazzucola, executive director of the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation, in a press release. “Given the challenges that have plagued the auto industry this year, we were unsure of the amount of dealers that would be able and willing to participate or what size donation we would be able to make. We virtually matched last year’s efforts and that is remarkable. The dealers remain committed to the cause and I salute them for that.”

Scott Honda sees the great need for these coats in the region and plans to continue to support Driving Away the Cold for years to come.

"This is a cause we believe in very much," says Vice President Duke Scott. "Sometimes you donate money to a charity and have no idea where it goes and who it helps.  With Driving Away the Cold, there is no doubt and that brings us and the recipients great comfort, they're just different kinds of comfort."

Jay's "Blue Scott" named Artist of the Month

Way to go Jay!  Your Scott Sailboat, named "Blue Scott", was clean, simple and well done.  We could tell that you really took your time and thought about each color and design element that you implemented.  The red airplane was a great touch. 

Keep on coloring Jay and congratulations on becoming the Sconda Artist of the Month for October.

September Artist of the Month is Michelle, Way to Go!

It's that time again, time for Artist of the Month, or AOTM for those in the know.

I narrowed down this months great colorings to the top three, but they were all so good I had to get a panel judges to pick the winner.   Without hesitation they unanimously chose "Circle Boat" colored by Michelle.  

"I love the circles," said Administrative Assistant and AOTM Judge, Sara Pyfer.  "No one has ever colored one like this before."

Our other judge, Assistant Accounting Manager, Jeanette Winters agreed, "This one is awesome," she exclaimed, pointing at Michelle's masterpiece.

I had to concur, so congratulations Michelle and remember "Keep on Coloring!"

Artist of the Month: Congratulations Andrew, Great Job!

Our Artist of the Month for August is Andrew G., an 11-year-old from West Chester, who will be a 5th grader at Pocopson Elementary School this September.

What sealed the deal for Andrew was the detailed outlining of his sailboat and the "Scott", followed by the nice, soft coloring of the interior of those same areas.  His well placed wave, fish and island were a great touch too!

I think this winner will start a new trend in the colorings of our well known logo amongst the youngest Scott Honda customers. 

I have also noticed a new theme, we now have some adults submitting their colorings well, sorry adults you can't win AOTM if you are over 13...but you all did a wonderful job :)

New Sconda Coloring Books Have Arrived!

We are proud to announce the much anticipated arrival of the Scott Honda Fun Book.  Over 1500 arrived at our doorstep yesterday and are already on the showroom floor ready for our youngest customers to enjoy.

This is our second coloring book, or version 2.0 as we like to call it and it is full of fun activities.  The first page is the classic Scott Sailboat, which has an updated look and is a bit larger for more coloring fun.  The children are encouraged to put their best artistic touch on these boats so they have the chance to win the coveted Artist of the Month Award.

The second page is for the kids to draw their "Car of the Future". I am hoping to get some pretty neat designs, which I will of course share with my loyal Sconda Blog followers.  Page three is all about "The 3 R's", reduce, reuse, recycle and it asks the children what items they see on the page that they recycle at home or at school.  The fourth page is an ocean themed hidden picture page and of course the Scott Sailboat managed to work its way into it and page five is a maze where the kids have to help the various Hondas find their way home.

On the sixth page I took a bit of a leap, but I explained to the kids where the Scott dealership's logo came from, in short, my Great Grandfather loved to sail, so he incorporated it into his company logo.  So I asked the kids, "What would your family logo be? Draw a picture of something you and your family enjoy doing, write your last name underneath it and presto, now you have a family logo."

We used a Word Find on the seventh page with 18 words associated with Scott, Honda and places they like to drive in their Scott Honda's, like the pool, the beach or a lake.  Last but not least is page eight, which has 8 wacky sailboats and 1 proper Scott Sailboat that they have to find, and then color them all if they like.

I had a lot of fun making this activity book, but I would love to hear some new ideas that I didn't think of that I could incorporate into version 3.0. As you saw in the Beachy Billboard, your comments can have a real impact at Sconda.
